Fred Perry and Raf Simons release their 10th collection this season. Hac?ienda inspired diagonal stripes appear in different variations; as an all-over twist on the Fred Perry Shirt, or as graphic elements on pockets and as patches on sweatshirts, woven shirts, a Harrington and the classic Bomber jacket. Knitwear feature chunky dash knits and colour blocking. Patches are an important part of Raf Simons heritage, featured prominently in his early designs of the late nineties and appear across the collection signalling a nod to Fred Perry aficionados who don patches in a subcultural way. When Raf Simons presented his SS18 collection earlier this year in NY’s Chinatown, it was heavily inspired by the artwork of Peter Saville, legendary UK graphic desginer. Saville made some of the most influential album covers in the 70’s and 80’s including the one for New Order’s ”Power, Corruption & Lies” – and Joy Divison’s ”Unknown Pleasures”.
Raf took inspiration from ”Power, Corruption & Lies” already back in 2003, for his Closer collection, and since then Supreme has taken on visual elements from the iconic New Order album artwork. Don’t be mistaken, Raf’s ability to tap into the smallest of Saville’s genius visuals is unparelled, which he again shows in the new styles.

Raf Simons has designed a tribute collection in celebration of Storm’s 20th anniversary. The collection symbolizes the enduring cooperation and upholding support between the two. The artwork featured on the t-shirts and sweatshirts is a hand-picked mix of archived artwork from Raf Simons’ antecedent collections. For Fall/Winter 18 we will see Raf Simons unveil his 'Youth in Motion' campaign, with lots of imagery from the now legendary Christiane F.-movie.
Christiane F. – Uli Edel’s visceral 1981 film (based on Christiane Felscherinow, Kai Hermann and Horst Rieck’s book Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo) has long occupied a pivotal place in Raf Simons’ imagination. Simons, like many Europeans of his generation, was exposed to the harrowing world of Christiane F. in high school, where the film and the book were discussed as a part of the curriculum. Set in late 1970s, cold war-era Berlin – the Berlin of David Bowie’s Low, Heroes and Lodger – Christiane F. ultimately remains a cautionary tale, one that unashamedly and unapologetically depicts the realities of drug use and addiction.
THE 'YOUTH IN MOTION' COLLECTION IS AVAILABLE HERE
Images of Detlev and Christiane F., the film’s anti-heroes - as played by first-time actors Thomas Haustein and Natja Brunckhorst – populate ‘Youth In Motion’ as emotional markers for the persistent relevance - socially and psychologically - of Christiane F.’s story and Edel’s film.
Part of the proceeds from sales of the ‘Youth In Motion’ collection will be donated to organizations that support those in recovery from addiction.

“We need a new outline” Raf stressed before his SS19 show. Bored of printed hoodies, he had set out to bring back haute-couture and tailoring on the runway – unforgetting of his strong underground youth influences. Flawlessly cut satin Duchesse coats and trousers were sent down the catwalk, boldly asserting his couture mastery.
Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s daring color combinations, he tells the story of the moment Punk birthed New Wave: the generously proportioned suits, drenched in vivid ice blue, fuchsia, marigold and emerald hues, reference 70s and 80s New Wave – even bringing neon flashbacks of early Stephen Sprouse.
Underplaying the expected punk visual cues, Simons instead spikes the collection with London club scene prints, featuring safety pins and chains, while studs ornate the massive coats, along with a dash of fetish, brought to life by versatile silver d-rings spread throughout the garments.
