Interview Mads Trolle

We interviewed jewelry designer and friend Mads Trolle about his debut collection "Skyline“; How would you describe your jewelry label in one sentence? Ladylike with an edge. Why did you decide to start your own jewelry label? “I have previously worked as part of the design team with Danish brands like Ole Lynggaard, Georg Jensen and Pandora where I designed several collections including the ‘Lovepods’ collection. Establishing a jewellery brand in my own name and designing the first collection is an old dream. It was my original dream when I started to train as a goldsmith at Georg Jensen. This was what I wanted to do with my life. Since then, my career took many turns and I became so involved with the big Danish jewellery brands, that I had almost forgotten what I really needed to do. Realizing that, it felt like I had no choice. I had to do my own thing, or regret it later. I am so happy to finally launched the brand and the collection, it feels like I am fulfilling what I set out to do." What inspired you while designing the "Skyline collection“? The collection is inspired by New York architecture and by architect Oscar Niemeyer. I wanted to design a collection for the modern, confident woman, so the muses for this collection was the young Patti Smith, Charlotte Gainsburgh and the Danish model Freja Behar. To me each of them are beautiful confident women and talented rebels. “Skyline” seemed to be a fitting title for the collection because of the strong architectual references. Top 5 songs at the moment? “Heaven” by Talking Heads. “Tessallate” by Alt-J. “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” by Sakamoto Ryuichi. “Afterlife” Arcade Fire. “Chandelier” by Sia. Best advise you ever got? “Be more you” This is not meant in an arrogant way. To me this is a simple advice for each and everyone of us that really makes sense.

polanski-3

Polanski 3

Polanski began as a blog of found imagery, which grew a decent following on Tumblr. After a while, pulling found images online and posting it on a blog got too boring for the Brooklyn collective. That's when Polanski needed to be to taken out of a blog format and be something tangible similar to an art zine. They started reaching out to photographers, whose work they enjoyed and reflected what they wanted to see in a publication. Luckily, a lot of them wanted to contribute. 128 pages / Edition of 500. Asmund Havsteen Mikkelsen

We interviewed artist, Asmund Havsteen-Mikkelsen, about his latest t-shirt project "Denmark“, his inspiration for it and his current exhibition. How would you describe the artwork for this t-shirt in one sentence? Inverting a geo-power-structure between Denmark and Greenland, making the smaller nation the conquerer! What inspired you while creating this piece? A map of greenland, a Greenlandic social-worker who taught me dirty words from Greenland and the need to poke fun at Denmark warring in Aghanistan at that moment (2004). Where can we see your work? My new solo-show is at Gallery Kant: The Infinity Complex, St. Kongensgade 3. I am showing paintings dealing with the architectural construction of infinity. Top 5 songs at the moment? I have been listening to a record by Peter Sommer - Destructive Vokaler - for the last 3 years every day in the studio. serpentine-comme-des-garcons

Serpentine Galleries teamed up with Comme des Garçons and legendary artist Tracey Emin to create the Serpentine Fragerance. Tracey Emin’s drawing takes inspiration from a sculpture she purchased depicting a lovers’ embrace. The handwritten text for the bottle face reads: “The Grass, The Trees, The Lake, And You”. The bottle text is printed in luminous silver and the artwork for the packaging slip cover is hot foil stamped in bright silver. The packaging comprises a simple square bottle with a depth half its height and a face left blank for an artist’s work. The box also features a removable slip cover, the surface of which can be decorated by an artist. The result is a fresh, light, yet deceivingly complex, unisex scent composed of grass, leaves, pollen (galbanum, iris leaf), oxygene (aldehyde, ozone), asphalt (black musks, nutmeg), labdanum and smoked cedar with a little bit of pollution (benzoin, juniper wood, gaïac wood). The collection’s slogan, “The City is Ours,” adorn each piece, referencing a scene in La Haine where a poster reads “Le Monde et a Vous” with the “V” crossed out and replaced with an “N.” Thus, “The City is Yours” becoming “The City is Ours.” Available here
