“You knew of it as an unholy place that society ranted and warned you about. Located in West Village, NYC, was the Stonewall Inn, a shady bar frequently visited by drag queens and outsiders. In the early hours of June 28, 1969, this area became the birthplace of the Stonewall Uprising, one of the most significant social turning points in modern history. Some even - truthfully - state: 'The first pride was a riot`.”

The scent is Spicy and Woody.

“The ‘peace and love sign’ was designed in the 1950s by Gerald Holtom and was along with the peace hand sign adopted by anti-war activists during the 1970s. The name 19-69 stands for just this: freedom, tolerance and counterculture. The scent Chinese Tobacco by 19-69 is also a reminiscence of a visit I made to a restaurant in Kuala Terengganu. It was late at night, the air was filled with wonderful aromas from the kitchen area, while a group of men was smoking and playing cards."

L'air Barbes

The scent is cold, light and fresh.

“I was in my teens when I first discovered Helmut Newton’s picture that made YSL’s ‘Le Smoking’ iconic. The genderlessness really made a big impression on me. With stark monochrome simplicity, Newton created a piece of iconography I still find myself inspired by. In the making of L'air Barbès I was strongly influenced by the androgyny in this picture. L'air Barbès by 19-69 is evocative of Paris’ different personas such as the concrete alleyways, la banlieue and of course, the area Barbès – Rochechouart. The fragrance is also a tribute to Paris, capitale de la mode.”

Female Christ

The scent is earthy and woody with integrity.

"In 19-69, a naked woman carrying a cross walked through the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The performance act went under the name ‘Female Christ’. The social revolution and constant transgression of boundaries in the late 1960s meant that artists’ expressions took new directions. Some artists opposed of dominant values and behavior of society by using performance art: art that exists while in progress. However, this also means that significant voices and parts of art history from this time period risk to fade as they only exist as photographic or filmed records. The fragrance ‘Female Christ’ ensures that the memory of the art performance created and carried out by the artists Lene Adler Petersen and Bjørn Nørgaard at the Copenhagen Stock Exchange will live on forever."

“Purple Haze is evocative of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969 as well as Lennon and Ono’s staged ‘Bed-ins for Peace’ in Montreal and Amsterdam, also in 1969. On a personal note, the perfume reflects the legendary artist Keenak who I met in Bahama Village, Key West. Guitar on his back, snake skin boots, skinny jeans and long hair. The fragrance Purple Haze is a tribute to creativity, freedom and indulgence and sets the ambience for 19-69."

Dripping Rhubarb is a scent that captivates the soul and makes people wonder whether they are placed in a surrealistic forest where tulips grow two meters tall, or in a metallic yet soft dream where mossy mountain fountains splash with soft soil, or perhaps standing in a massive river with tree trunks passing rapidly while rhubarb falls from the sky.
