Silphium (probably of the genus Ferula) was a plant that grew in the area of Cyrene, present day Libya, and was widely renowned as a spice, medicinal herb and perfume ingredient throughout the empires of the classical antiquity. It was praised by Greek philosophers and writers, as well as Roman emperors and cookbook authors. This is combination with its qualities as seasoning and medicine made Silphium the most valuable spice in the world, outshining both saffron and cinnamon. The demand for Silphium eventually became so overwhelming that it was harvested to extinction, and the taste and smell of the once greatest spice in the world was lost in time.

Heart notes: Cinnamon, tobacco leaf, geranium, black pepper, ginger, clove
Base notes: Frankinscense, cedarwood, myrrh, leather.

Sun, warm sand and a gentle breeze of fresh sea air. A refreshing and striking note of lemon fades to reveal an aquatic green, algue note, while vetiver and drift woods of cedar and birch dry slowly in the sand and salty, sea air.
Seductive incense entangled with vegetal roots. Ardent woods set boldly aflame. Resinous depth illuminated by beetroot brights. A ceremonial clash of contrasts. A radical revelation of blazing harmonies.
BRIGHT: Crushed clusters of spicy sweet pink peppercorns. The enlightening intensity of Indonesian ginger. A luminous layer. FRESH: Earthen emissions from fresh sliced beetroot. Egyptian Geranium leaves, minty and metallic. Grounded wonder. DEEP: The resinous romance of sticky incense. Woody patchouli dosed with the aromatic amber of cistus. A sacred sensuality.
Through deliberate overdose and rapturous expression, ROUGE presents an unexpected unison. An olfactive congregation of desire.
The archetypal associations of the colour ROUGE seen and subverted through the distinctly disruptive gaze of Comme des Garçons.

Papier Carbone is a work on memory. It evokes the paper our teachers used to use at school, the wood of library and the liquorice we loved as children.
