Nara
Spanning four decades of the artist’s work, this lavishly illustrated book offers readers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the personal and creative world of the internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara, widely known for his bold images of children with large heads and wide eyes that challenge the viewers with their direct gaze and defiant stance. These captivating yet ominous characters are part of a wider visual vocabulary established by Nara to explore and communicate themes of home, isolation, resilience, belonging, regeneration, hope and freedom.
Essays by writers Yeewan Koon, Josh Kun and Barry Schwabsky trace the evolution of his art, focusing in particular on his practice as a painter and his connection with popular music. The book also features an in-depth interview with Hayward Senior Curator Yung Ma, the artist's own photographs of his home and studio, and an extensive chronology that traces the evolution and breadth of his career.
Featuring over 200 illustrations and a gold-foiled, clothbound hardback cover.

Wayne Thiebaud
This book tracks the career of the artist over six decades, revealing his retained interest in lighthearted subjects while casting them in traditional modes of painting. It celebrates the artist's regard for the delights of the quintessentially American summer experience, from its sweet ice creams and chilled soda pops to beach games and barbecues, melting a gray winter into a fading memory. The catalogue features paintings from the 1960s through the 2000s of beach scenes, hot dogs, ice creams, beach balls, and bathing suits.
Most of the works come directly from the foundation and are rarely seen in public. More than 60 paintings show the artist's versatility, dazzling technique, and rich use of color, as well as a sense of playfulness--a longing for a sweeter and more nostalgic time.

That’s why I like to travel: because traveling requires—and inspires—a shift in perspective.” And so in Away we’re privileged to accompany him on journeys to all the destinations our wanderlust might desire, be they picturesque towns, bustling cities or sublime nature: from the elegant Tuileries of Paris to the dramatic Arctic forms of the Svalbard archipelago, from Angkor Wat to São Paulo and Venice and beyond
