“During the years I have always found the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park and Twentynine Palms mind-blowing. With many of them being psychoactive, the fragrance is also a testimonial to Laurel Canyon: the home of countless parties and LA rock musicians during the experimental era of the late 1960s and 1970s."

"In 1991, Bret Easton Ellis published his iconic novel American Psycho to a storm of controversy. The story revolves around investment banker Patrick Bateman and can be read as social commentary on a society driven by materialism and superficiality. To me, American Psycho is a metaphor for the darker side of the American Dream.

The book significantly impacted pop culture and has over the years developed a cult following and status. In the creation of American Psycho EdP I tapped into a few key elements from the book as well as its subsequent film adaptation released in 2000: Bateman’s vanity rituals, fine sparkling water, icy sorbet and Wall Street in the 1980s."

"The iconic American surf documentary `The Endless Summer` (1966) and The Beach Boys sparked off an entire movement of good vibrations in California during the 1960s. Once the privilege of Hawaiian royalty, surfing today is more than riding waves: it’s a lifestyle. Recently, professional big wave surfer Nic Von Rupp invited me to encounter the ambiance of his native Nazaré , a coastal town situated on the Atlantic Ocean in Portugal. With its beautiful raw rock formations, magnificent swells, and air characterised by salty sea winds, it made a profound impact on me. Atlântico EdP by 19-69 is inspired by the renowned coordinates 308° NWN, famed for its towering waves near Nazaré ́s coast."

"Stories of how Talitha and Paul Getty, Paul Bowles, Mick Jagger, Veruschka and Yves Saint Laurent all resided in Marrakesh have always inspired me. I’m intrigued by how they were enticed by the kingdom’s energy and dynamic and used it for influences and escapes: clothes, colors, music, interior and drugs. I wanted to create a warm and cocooning scent influenced by this era, based on personal reminiscences from the vibrant souks and lively markets in Marocco. “The ‘peace and love sign’ was designed in the 1950s by Gerald Holtom and was along with the peace hand sign adopted by anti-war activists during the 1970s. The name 19-69 stands for just this: freedom, tolerance and counterculture. The scent Chinese Tobacco by 19-69 is also a reminiscence of a visit I made to a restaurant in Kuala Terengganu. It was late at night, the air was filled with wonderful aromas from the kitchen area, while a group of men was smoking and playing cards."

“I was in my teens when I first discovered Helmut Newton’s picture that made YSL’s ‘Le Smoking’ iconic. The genderlessness really made a big impression on me. With stark monochrome simplicity, Newton created a piece of iconography I still find myself inspired by. In the making of L'air Barbès I was strongly influenced by the androgyny in this picture. L'air Barbès by 19-69 is evocative of Paris’ different personas such as the concrete alleyways, la banlieue and of course, the area Barbès – Rochechouart. The fragrance is also a tribute to Paris, capitale de la mode.”

"In 19-69, a naked woman carrying a cross walked through the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The performance act went under the name ‘Female Christ’. The social revolution and constant transgression of boundaries in the late 1960s meant that artists’ expressions took new directions. Some artists opposed of dominant values and behavior of society by using performance art: art that exists while in progress. However, this also means that significant voices and parts of art history from this time period risk to fade as they only exist as photographic or filmed records. The fragrance ‘Female Christ’ ensures that the memory of the art performance created and carried out by the artists Lene Adler Petersen and Bjørn Nørgaard at the Copenhagen Stock Exchange will live on forever."

On a personal note, the perfume reflects the legendary artist Keenak who I met in Bahama Village, Key West. Guitar on his back, snake skin boots, skinny jeans and long hair. The fragrance Purple Haze is a tribute to creativity, freedom and indulgence and sets the ambience for 19-69."

"Villa Nellcôte is a 16-room mansion of the Belle Epoque, previously occupied and used as headquarters by the local Gestapo during the Nazi occupation of France. In the spring of 1971, new rebellious tenants and their colorful entourage hosted the property for six months. The barefoot hippies, the beautiful settings and the dark past were a perfect match resulting in a rock album that to this day inspires people across borders and nations. “Known as a playground for the mafia and wealthy elite, Havana in the mid 1900s hosted many vibrant music venues like the Tropicana or the members’ guild Buena Vista Social Club. The rhythmic pulsations of Habanera, Latin Jazz and Salsa that were heard everywhere coupled with the dazzling showgirls, added to the tropical island’s allure. After the revolution in 1959 many establishments closed down and with that an era of Havana ended. The scent La Habana is inspired by my uncle who was a sailor, his narratives of Cuba.”
