    Spring 2019 issue

At a time when LGBTQIA+ rights – trans and non-binary rights in particular – are under increasing threat worldwide, the new issue of Dazed celebrates the creativity of queer communities everywhere.

Shot by Mark Peckmezian and styled by Emma Wyman, Chelsea Manning discusses her love of clubbing, the importance of finding offline communities and the policing of American cities. Manning also guest edited a section of the magazine, asking the most important voices in trans activism to write about what they think is the most under-discussed issue affecting trans people in the US.

Budding actress Hunter Schafer and 2019’s coolest girl, model Ariel Nicholson front our first covers, shot by Mario Sorrenti and styled by Robbie Spencer in Rick Owens SS19. Schafer is in conversation with her friend Rowan Blanchard, discussing world building through artistic practice, her role as Jules in Sam Levinson’s upcoming HBO teen drama series, Euphoria and why she thinks “trans people know fantasy really well”. Nicholson talks about art and anxiety, and taking a break from social media.

Our fourth cover star is Krow, the first trans male model to have walked at Louis Vuitton, shot by Sean & Seng and styled by Robbie Spencer, and our fifth and final cover is fronted by Londoner Finn Buchanan, who went from being scouted in Sainsbury’s to opening Margiela’s SS19 show.

Elsewhere in the issue, activist Adam Eli brings together the most rapturous voices of New York’s LGBTQIA+ scene, Tom Rasmussen introduces the cast of New York-based LGBTQIA+ modeling agency, New Pandemics, and Emma Hope Allwood writes about why genderless casting is the next frontier in fashion, an industry historically defined by binaries. Actress Raffey Cassidy reflects on her turn alongside Natalie Portman in pop fairytale, Vox Lux, and Torbjørn Rødland shoots the cast of Gregg Araki and Karley Sciortino’s new series, Now Apocalypse. Church kid turned NYC future pop-crooner, Ian Isiah is shot by Charlie Engman and styled by Matt Holmes in Virgil Abloh’s first menswear collection for Louis Vuitton and Kelsey Lu talks about the making of her debut album out this spring.
