For SS20, adidas presents the return of the Gardening Club, a trail and gardening-inspired capsule that first sowed the seeds of its popularity in the autumn of 2019.
Originally realized under the adidas Consortium banner, a series of new drops maintain the tongue-in-cheek humor, earthy aesthetics and green-fingered functionality of the original Gardening Pack.
The first drop features new iteration of the Response Hoverturf footwear inspired by the trail-running world and designed to work equally well in the soil or the city streets.
The gardening-inspired capsule collection remains a clarion call to all the likeminded ‘avant-gardeners’ out there. The Response Hoverturf exemplifies this, refusing to be shackled by the slow-paced life of a gardener, ready for you to break into a run whenever the call of the great outdoors (or bustling metropolis) becomes too much. It delivers all this through ripstop and mesh uppers, a rubber toe overlay and FORMOTION heel - all rendered in a blacked-out palette, save for the splashes of color that punctuate its ADIPRENE midsole.

Garrett Leight teamed up with Mark McNairy for a new Eyewear line. The designs draw inspiration from classic American characters throughout time. As Mark puts it, "We looked back at the inconspicuous weirdos, maniacs, creeps, and people that don’t give a damn what anyone thinks. People like Aristotle Onasis, Charles Bukowski, Mickey Rourke, Michael Caine, Peter Falk, Allen Ginsberg, Groucho Marx." All frames are a Made in America acetate frame that is a collaborative effort stamped with both Mark McNairy and Garrett Leight branding.

David Freund
From 1978 to 1981, David Freund analysed the culture, architecture and landscape of gas stations in more than forty states. The photographs show customers and workers in postures and actions peculiar to gassing up, or just hanging out. Regional landscapes hold and surround gas stations, each with its own landscape of designed plantings or scrappy volunteers. Stations were also outposts for American networks other than petroleum, seen in telephone booths, mailboxes and powerlines. These and all that surrounds them spark recognition and recollection, accruing as elements of a nonlinear American narrative. While Freund’s primary concern is for his photographs to engage and surprise, he acknowledges nostalgia and uses it to imbue his subjects with a compelling sense of belonging.
